Solutions — Device Manager Mobile

The same Device Manager API, running as an Android APK on your handheld.

Device Manager Mobile running on a Zebra Android handheld

Device Manager Mobile brings the full Device Manager stack to Android — same REST/WebSocket API, same driver layer, same capabilities. Your application talks to the handheld's RFID reader without touching Zebra's native SDK or any vendor-specific library.

Device Manager Mobile configuration interface on a handheld

Configuration and monitoring use the same web-based interface as the desktop agent. Set antenna parameters, define encoding rules, check read logs — from a browser, while the handheld is in the operator's hands.

Identical API surface

The REST/WebSocket interface is exactly the same as the desktop agent. Applications built for Device Manager work with Device Manager Mobile without changes.

Android-native, handheld-ready

Runs as an APK on Zebra Android handhelds. No Linux host, no separate PC — the agent lives on the device your operators already carry.

Full driver and encoding support

UHF read/write, NFC, GS1 SGTIN encoding, tag security routines — the complete capability set, on a handheld.

HOW IT WORKS

Four capabilities — identical to the desktop agent, running on Android handheld hardware.

  1. 01 — Reader control

    One API, any supported handheld.

Device Manager Mobile controls the built-in RFID reader on Zebra Android handhelds through the same unified REST/WebSocket interface as any other ACD agent. No Zebra SDK integration required on the application side.

  2. 02 — Tag read and write

    EPC, TID, memory banks.

Full UHF read/write operations: EPC encoding, TID capture, memory bank access. GS1 SGTIN format supported natively. Tag security and re-encoding routines available for compromised or expired tags.

  3. 03 — NFC support

    Same device, second channel.

On handhelds with NFC capability, Device Manager Mobile exposes NFC read/write through the same API — no separate integration. Switch between UHF and NFC workflows without changing your application logic.

  4. 04 — Event streaming

    Real-time reads over WebSocket.

Tag reads are streamed to the application over WebSocket as they happen — no polling, no buffering delay. The application receives events and acts on them; Device Manager Mobile handles everything below.

Case Study — Manufacturing & Logistics

RFID traceability across a manufacturing warehouse

Monchiero extended their existing WMS with RFID using Device Manager Mobile on Zebra RFD40 handhelds — covering inbound, stock movements, outbound, and inventory without replacing any existing system.

Multi-vendor, handheld-native

Device Manager Mobile runs on Zebra Android handhelds and exposes the same API as every other ACD agent — swap the hardware, keep the integration.

Barcode and QR

Built-in scanner, same workflow

Device Manager Mobile integrates the handheld's built-in barcode scanner alongside RFID — scan a barcode and read an RFID tag in the same operation, from the same device.
